One extended journey through the Australian Coast is being halted following the tragic passing of an older female passenger who was left behind by the ship on a remote island.

The elderly woman had been trekking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but separated from the excursion for a pause. The liner left without her and returned later that day after the ship staff realised the passenger was missing.

A major search operation located her body the subsequent day.

Investigative bodies are investigating the incident, in coordination with investigators and the state coroner.

Chief Executive of the shipping company said that guests and staff on the Coral Adventurer were notified that the remainder of the journey had been terminated due to the "unfortunate death and previous mechanical issues".

Through an announcement, he mentioned that travelers would be given a total repayment, and said the organization was working "to organize the homeward trips of the individuals via chartered flights".

Authorities also released an latest communication, and said they had "issued a notice to the Commander" banning any further travelers from getting on the ship.

The official said that they would attend the vessel in the port city upon its return.

The ship originally sailed from Cairns on 24 October, and was merely two days into the journey at the point of the senior passenger's passing. The tropical location was the first stop on the itinerary.

Passengers on the vessel - who generally pay substantial amounts of dollars to participate in the cruise - were ferried there for a shore visit with the possibility of hiking or snorkeling.

The daughter of the victim said that her relatives was "stunned and distressed that the liner left the island after an scheduled tour without my mother".

In her statement, she portrayed her mum as an "energetic 80-year-old" who was a participant of a bushwalking organization.

"Based on limited information we have been provided, it seems that there was a lapse of responsibility and basic judgment," she said.

She further stated that she desired the inquiry would be able to identify what "the company should have done that might have saved Mother's life".

"Based on information from the authorities that it was a very hot day, and mother became unwell on the hill climb," she explained.

"They requested her to return, without accompaniment. Then the ship left, apparently without doing a passenger count.

"At some stage in that chain of events, or soon after, mum succumbed, without company."

Company Position

Via official communication, the Chief Executive confirmed that the operator was "working closely with officials to support their investigation".

He said that the company was "deeply sorry that this has happened" and had provided its complete assistance to the family.

Cruise Industry Procedures

The ship accommodates up to one hundred twenty guests with forty-six staff, according to company information. It was purpose-built to access remote areas of Australia's shoreline and is outfitted with "small boats" - minor craft used to ferry travelers on shore trips.

Occurrences of this nature are rare, and passenger vessels have procedures to document which individuals are embarking or disembarking, according to maritime specialists.

"Going ashore secretly or [back] on the ship just isn't an possibility," a specialist remarked.

Cruise lines consider these procedures very seriously and have "sophisticated systems in place to avoid such events from happening," the authority further stated.

"This seems to be most likely a surprising - and unfortunate - isolated incident."
