Congress Approves Measure to Release Jeffrey Epstein Files

The Senate on Tuesday quickly approved to a measure that will mandate the disclosure of case documents concerning the late pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, following a overwhelming vote in the US House of Representatives and a change of position by the president and his GOP allies. The White House relented after an extended period of trying to block the bipartisan effort involving a controversy that has followed the president since his return to the White House.

Expedited Passage in Both Chambers

Senators proceeded by general agreement, which needs acceptance from each senator but does not require a formal roll call vote, accelerating the process. Just before, the House passed by a huge margin the bill on a massive majority.

“The American people have endured sufficient delay. Those affected have waited long enough,” Chuck Schumer stated in a Senate remarks on Tuesday, before requesting the chamber to adopt it by consent. “Uncover the facts. Let transparency reign.”

Presidential Signature

This legislation next goes to Donald Trump for his approval. He indicated on Monday that he would endorse the legislation.

Even though the president has for months dismissed the controversy over the authorities' approach of the scandal as a “false narrative”, he voiced approval for the legislation over the weekend, and announced he would approve it if it comes to him.

Response

Democrats, along with those affected and their representatives who were seated in a viewing area, applauded after the bill was approved. The sole “no” vote came from Clay Higgins, who said he feared the measure would disclose personal information of individuals involved, those under scrutiny and others caught up in the investigation.
